About

Hi, I'm Devon!

I'm a speech-language pathologist and the founder of Lakeside Language & Literacy Therapy, and I specialize in providing language and literacy services for children and adolescents. I primarily work with students with dyslexia, dysgraphia, developmental language disorder, speech sound disorders, and ADHD. Intervention is tailored to each student’s unique learning profile, strengths, and needs. For students with literacy-based deficits, I use SPELL-Links to Reading & Writing™, a structured literacy approach grounded in the speech-to-print framework, alongside complementary evidence-based programs and strategies designed to support vocabulary development, language organization, reading comprehension, written expression, and executive functioning skills. To help students develop the skills and confidence needed to become independent communicators and learners, I take a whole-person, collaborative approach to therapy by partnering closely with families, educators, and related professionals. My path to speech-language pathology started with a bachelor's degree in Communications from Georgia State University. While I was an undergraduate student, I worked as a research assistant at the Center for Research on Atypical Development and Learning, where I studied the relationship between oral language and literacy. That experience ultimately inspired me to pursue a master's degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders at the University of Texas at Austin. Since becoming an SLP, I've spent the last eight years working with school-aged children in both public school and private practice settings. I hold my Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP) through the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA). I am currently licensed to provide speech-language pathology services in Illinois, Idaho, California, and Texas, allowing me to work with clients both locally and through teletherapy across multiple states. When I'm not with a student, you'll usually find me staying up to dates with developments in the field, reading, making pottery, traveling, or spending time with my husband, our Boston Terrier, and our two cats.
